I can't determine my level in English, but you can say I'm upper-intermediate or advanced. I finished high school this year and I am going to university next year isAllah.

I like manga very much and I watch it translated into English so this makes my English stronger(You know it's hard to keep my eyes on the translation while watching). The books I read are novels and mainly for Charles Dickens and for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (novels of Sherlock Holmes).

So I am really advanced in reading and understanding but not as much in speaking and writing (upper-intermediate).

I chose novels as I enjoy them in Arabic very much so the real beginning in English was the easiest for me if it was with novels.

Am I talkative :unsure: ?

i am so amazed!! can you tell us exactly for how long you have been reading and watching manga ^_^

because i think that and as you said our schools in Arabic countries (in general) aren't qualified to graduate students in your ability :(

I only began watching translated anime and reading manga about year and half ago and only for Conan not any other manga. Before that I had been already reading English novels. You know, when I read the first novel which was very easy, it was so difficult for me and I spent some months before having the courage to complete it !

You are not talkative at all .. the purpose of this topic is for everyone to ask and answer the others in English :).

Why don't we discuss the causes of the weakness in English in the Arab world ?? I want to speak about this problem especially in my country.

and There's some more practical means in addition to novels

like the audio books stories ,

it helps also so much , it makes you more confident and makes your mind learn subconsciously and let you speak more fluently

 

I've learnt that from the teacher (aj hog) the owner of Effortless English Lessons

he always keeps saying that ( listen Listen Listen..

 

and i've learnt a lot form listening

because the teacher ( i mentioned previously ) says : don't memorize vocabulary

don't think about grammar

just listen listen

I need to ameliorate my English language skills too, especially because I'm living now in a Country where the official language is english.

I'm taking also Computer courses in english.

And I'm teaching quran to two young girls who speak english only...

You are right. As I said, reading made me strong in understanding and reading but not as much in speaking and listening so I agree with you that audio books are very good and important, but may be they are hard for beginners. Do you agree with me ??

About Grammar, I can't ignore my school ^_^ I liked Grammar at school and was good at it.

We can say that if one of us is certain about a mistake then she can correct it.

Ok...

It's a hard work but I'll do my best and correct mistakes with examples and quotes.
